Icon has made a name for themselves by restoring older 4x4s with modern touches and is analogous to what Singer accomplishes with their Porsches. This ad has been carefully worded and I don’t believe this is a true Icon but a well built tribute to one – either way this Toyota is too nice not to share.
Starting with a 1965 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser a full restoration was completed in 2009 and its original diminutive 4-cylinder was replaced with a 6.0 Liter V8 that makes 400hp. The original components wouldn’t be able to handle this upgraded engine so a well built Dynatrac 60 axle that is compact to give the truck more ground clearance but beefy enough to handle the extra power.
The suspension now has a trick Walker Evan racing shock setup on all four corners with an external reservoir that raise this FJ enough to fit huge 35″ tires in the wheel wells and an extra spare on the rear.
The exterior of this truck is a mix of vintage and modern with classic body lines and newer styling cues like a 50″ LED light bar and ARB front bar and snorkel. This trucks beauty lies in its function dictating form with pieces like a blacked out gas holder and heavy duty powdercoated roll cage inside the cabin.
The interior is sparse with just the necessities – a few guages and a rugged interior that looks like it could be hosed down if need be. No carpeting is installed and the exposed rivets and nuts are a cool industrial touch.
This truck has only been driven 3,300 miles since its restoration and the owner is looking to get $110k for it. A lot of cash for a truck like this especially since its not a “genuine” Icon but it does have a cool look to it and can pretty much do anything and go anywhere.
This Toyota FJ started life out as the prototype ICON, Completed with some other upgrades that are not on a standard ICON we call this one the XCON. Some of the upgrades that this FJ carries over a standard ICON Are as follows:
The Wheel base has been extended and track width widened to give a more stable feeling it now carries the same wheelbase and track width as a New two door Wrangler, the difference is huge on the stability now over the stock. The Front axles have been upgraded to Dynatrac 60. The standard 5.3 Liter Vortec is a 6.0 Liter w 400 Horsepower in the XCON and carries an electronic 4L80E automatic transmission where the ICON Is a manual transmission. An Atlas twin Stick transfer case, Walker Evan reservoir shocks throughout, Hutchinson Bead lock wheels w 35 in Nitto Grapplers are installed over the standard ICONS 33Inch tires. There is a very detailed and ultra strong full roll cage from the front to the rear seating, Rigid 50 inch LED light bar with dual lights on the custom front bumper, Warn wench, ARB snorkel w intake.
